About Us
The mission of the Warroad Historical Society is to record the history past and present of the city of Warroad and its surrounding area and to make this history available to all interested individuals and organizations.
Warroad, Minnesota is located on the Southwest corner of Lake of the Woods, just 6 miles from the Canadian border. The lake was home to people for thousands of years prior to settlement for its fertile hunting, berry and ricing grounds. After land opened for settlement, European Americans discovered the bounty this area had to offer and started to call Warroad home. Warroad is famous for fishing, windows and hockey but there is substantially more to discover about this community.
The Warroad Heritage Center museum provides a vast amount of historical information pertaining to Warroad, Swift, Roosevelt, Lake of the Woods and the Northwest Angle. The museum hosts many displays including, Native American history, commercial fishing, the fur trade and more. The research room in the office is a great place to learn about local history. Approximately 1500 files of various families who have called Warroad home. Compiled binders and subject folders hold an extensive amount of information on different topics from the area.
